Also, visibly playing guitar in the video (unlike Erik Woodard, who’s not shown) is Michael RJ Saalman, whose new album under his solo “Woman Year” moniker is out today.
Furthermore: I realized I hadn’t “announced” that the Kites Sail High 12″ “Alone” is no longer a 1-sided EP; it’s now a full-length LP packing together 2 different but totally yin-yang EPs into 1 fully-balanced LP. Get pumped! Preorders are live for that too! Going to be available in late May.
Here’s a video made by Placerville’s Cinema Caldera for “Lip Beings,” from Pregnant’s soon-to-be released LP “Regional Music.” It features a lot beautiful nature shots. You should really just go to the actual Vimeo page for this video and watch it in HD because it looks remarkable.
Speaking of remarkable: having finally heard this new record…I can’t get this to the presses fast enough. That’s all I’ll say now. I’ve updated the page for the record with an MP3 of the track “Uphill Divination,” which is a horn-laden posi-pop masterpiece that gets under your skin so effortlessly that you hardly have a chance to notice the intense drum programming and the glurgles of wet sound.
Furthermore: Woman Year’s “May Peace Bewitch You” tapes are out today. This gem of an album is filled with totally bewildering guitar playing, dope beats, and some of the weirdest overtly pop music I’ve ever heard. It’s like the recontexualization of all sorts of fringe and avantgarde in a pop context without any net loss. There’s enough variety, too, often within one track, to warrant several immediate repeat listens. Woman Year is the work of Michael RJ Saalman, whom you have maybe heard as guitarist warlock in Afternoon Brother (whose truly shredding “Maiden America” we’ve just released recently), as well as in his work both live and on record with Pregnant. ORDER ONE!?. Don’t forget you can get any 2 tapes for $10, and any more than that for $4 a piece (3 for $14, 4 for $18)…all postage-paid of course!
I’ve added streamable MP3s to a few more upcoming records, updated some record descriptions, and fixed the “ADD TAPE” button for buying more than 2 tapes. And fixed some apparently broken “VIEW CART” buttons. OK. That’s all for today.
This will be the first place you can buy Dash Jacket’s excellent “Romance” disc, at some crazy-low price yet-to-be-determined price. The more I listen to this thing, the more I am just mesmerized by how straight-up good their songs are. Nothing pretentious or cheesy here, no cliches.
Thanks for all the preorders! These will be beautiful records.
Woman Year tapes ready next Tuesday. This recording is so unbelievably bomb. There are: totally fucked indie-pop jammers, avant-nothing segues, bad-ass beats, and, somehow, no shortage of infectious hooks coming from the most obtuse angles.
Preorders are alive for French Quarter’s “It’s Not Just Kissing” (Flow 12), Pregnant’s “Regional Music” (Flow 13), and the Sac-town Double 7″ Split (Mason Lindahl/Ellie Fortune/Raleigh Moncrief/Zach Hill) (Flow 15). Each can be purchased for a special preorder price of $10ppd, which means this is when the iron is hot and therefore you should strike. Plus, preorders will come with neat goodies, like zines and posters and other stuff.
Here’s a video of Daniel from Pregnant playing “Do That” from the album “Liquidation On Swans.”
If this doesn’t pump you up to hear new jams then I guess that’s OK but then suffice to say we have somewhat different sources of happiness.
The Endless Bummer’s performance on Phoning It In is now streaming on the radio show’s site. Host Nadav notes that David Barclay is the only artist who has performed on the program across each of it’s three different radio homes, with a different band each time.
Never one to take the easy route, David endlessly complicates the proceedings in a way that must be heard to be believed. And that’s why we love him.
In other news: a bunch of pre-orders will go live tomorrow. Be alive for them.
Kites Sail High’s “Alone” will no longer be a 1-sided 12″. Almost immediately after posting yesterday, I heard his new EP, and it KILLS.
We’ll now be releasing a 12″ featuring “Alone” on the A side and the new “Secrets” on the flip. Artwork will be updated too! More as it comes. Release scheduled for mid-May.
The new EP takes the first’s alternately heavy/light IDM flights and spins in some positive tribecalia. Result is organically beautiful, totally danceable and fresh. Really really excited to be a part of this project!
In the mean time, here is a funny video by one of the coolest bands ever, Laika & The Cosmonauts. I stupidly sat out on their US farewell tour last year and now will probably never see them until they reform in like 8 years.
The new French Quarter LP is called “It’s Not Just Kissing,” and will be out in just over a month. A pre-order will be available really shortly (really shortly) which will include exclusive goodies.
The new Pregnant album is called “Regional Music.”It will come out in late June on 12″ vinyl.
Kites Sail High’s “Alone” will be out in May, now. Still as a 1-sided 12″ LP.
Woman Year’s “May Peace Bewitch You” will be out in about 2 weeks as a beautiful cassette tape.
That is all I can think of right now.
Oh! I put up a TOURS page that will be updated with some frequency.
