FLOW 10

Wholly discombobulated pop gems. ThisĀ album is filled with totally bewildering guitar playing, dope beats, and some of the weirdest overtly pop music I’ve ever heard. It’s like the recontexualization of all sorts of fringe and avantgarde in a pop context without any net loss. There’s enough variety, too, often within one track, to warrant several immediate repeat listens. Woman Year is the work of Michael RJ Saalman, whom you have maybe heard as guitarist warlock in Afternoon Brother (whose truly shredding “Maiden America” we’ve just released recently), as well as in his work both live and on record with Pregnant. 50 white tapes with printed labels, 13 jammin tracks.

  1. this is a terrific album. hopefully it’ll make it to vinyl/cd.

woman year is amazing, quirky and new-tee-shirt clean with unexpectedly pointed and meaningful lyrics, surrounded by voice/sounds never imagined. sweet!

woman year is a name to be watched for and listened to in the very near future and beyond. here is important music.
